Olive Oil, Twice Over

When I hear the words olive oil, my mind does not go first to the kitchen. It goes to faith.

I think of deliverance, consecration, and ordination; of camp meetings and anointing services, and the familiar sight of small bottles of olive oil in churches across denominations. For the longest time, that was all olive oil represented to me.

Then, Another Side

In time, I came to it from a different perspective. A conversation with an older friend sent me reading, and what I had known only as a symbol of faith and anointing became something practical in my everyday life: a quiet presence at my table, in my hair care, and in my evening skin routine.

From here, my story splits in two. I have written about the gentle changes I made at the table, and about the quiet ritual olive oil has become for my hair and skin.

Twice Over

Olive oil means different things to different people. For many believers it remains a powerful symbol of faith and consecration. For me, it has become both spiritual and practical: a reminder that the things we have always known in one context can quietly surprise us in another.
